This site also offers extensive background information on and the history of the founder of the kung fu style and the various practitioners around the world. It is an attempt to share all digitally available information with all interested parties worldwide and to preserve and promote the style for the future.
I aim to contribute to the maintenance and dissemination of knowledge and skills in the field of Sek Koh Sam kung fu in general and that of Master P’ng Chye Khim in particular. For more than 25 years I have been collecting all kinds of documents, files, photos and videos relating to Sek Koh Sam in general and Sao Lim Kung Fu in particular; it turns out that this has become a special library. I want to share all this information here with interested parties.
In addition, it also aims to unite the online presence of descendants of Sek Koh Sam in whatever form.
Sao Lim … that looks very similar to Shao Lin (from the famous Shaolin Monastery) and essentially it is the same name. Sao Lim is the pronunciation of the two characters 少林, in the dialect of the southern Chinese province of Fujian. This refers to Southern Shaolin (南少林), which was spread throughout Southeast Asia by a Buddhist monk named Sek Koh Sam 释高参. One of his students, P’ng Chye Khim 方再欽, spread this style of kung fu in Penang, Malaysia.
I did once obtain an assistant diploma, but I do not see myself as a teacher, instructor, or ‘sifu’ at all. Nevertheless, I was asked if I wanted to spread Sao Lim in the Netherlands. In 2024, Khoo Kah Jin, a student of P’ng Chye Khim whom I had met in 2006, came to the Netherlands for a three-day visit. The goal was, on the one hand, to further expand knowledge and skills in the field of Sao Lim, but also to encourage and motivate me to continue the training. This was done by offering ongoing help and support for the future.
